Sick As A Dog

Sick As A Dog

I recently flew into Cusco from Lima, a change in altitude of about 11,000 feet. I was a little sick heading to the airport, got almost no sleep, and then felt all the effects of altitude sickness when I landed.

It was a perfect trifecta, and my first few days here will be remembered by constant nausea and just 1-2 hours of restless sleep per night.

As I was lying in bed, I almost completely forgot about my two largest goals.

  1. Location Independence

  2. Financial Independence

Those don’t matter when you’re sick. Sickness overwhelms your senses and it doesn’t help to check your bank account or look out the window at a beautiful Cusco sunset.

All that matters is warmth, a bed, and some warm soup or other easily digestible food.

Even if you’re not location independent, you’re probably healthy most of the time. That’s something to be grateful for.

It’s very easy to focus on what you don’t have and sometimes very difficult to focus on what you do.

Even if you’re still planning your escape, hating every day in the cubicle and dying to get out, remember that you have your health. Even a beautiful place like Cusco can feel like a prison if you’re not feeling well.
