Do You Have The ‘Adventure’ Mindset?

Life can get pretty hectic, especially if you’re balancing digital nomad travel with work, relationships, or anything else. Work alone is stressful enough for most people who aren’t running from city to city every week! Over the past month, I’d been feeling a little of that stress.

 

So… I bought a backpacking tent…

 

… and wandered off into the mountains. I bought a few other camping essentials as well (food, sleeping pad, etc.) and took off. That morning I had looked out my window at a beautiful ridge and I though to myself “I’d like to climb up there.”

 

I got to the first little peak in less than an hour. The sun was getting low, but the next mountain was bigger and looked like it had a great view, so I trekked on. That night, I ate tortillas looking out over the Oaxacan cityscape. Here are a few pictures…

 

The next day I woke up to a beautiful sunrise, ate another meal of tortillas, beans, and tuna, and planned where I wanted to go.

 

In the same spirit as before, I looked at the next ridge over and decided it was a good destination.

 

Talk about a surprise!

 

When I approached the peak of the next hill I saw the side of what I thought was a restaurant at the top of the mountain. It was a man-made structure, but not a modern-day restaurant…

 

I had climbed to the famous Monte Albán, an ancient city founded around 500 BC! That was awesome.

 

 

Now I’m back in town, but I’m planning an even bigger trip for next week. 😉 I’ll let you know how it turns out.

 

Little adventures like this are all around you… if you’re willing to embrace them.

 

With a state of mind that’s open to the adventure, the unknown, and the spontaneous, you’re sure to find pleasant surprised when you get off the beaten path. (Just like I stumbled into the back door of a 2,500 year old city)
