Rocket Launches Vs. Product Launches

Rocket Launches Vs. Product Launches

If you saw Elon Musk’s 2 side-booster rockets land simultaneously on the launch-pads, you might have cried a bit. I did. The guy actually did it!

Elon Musk re-lands rockets. Winston Churchill galloped up and down the battlefield dodging bullets. Floyd Mayweather trained all-day every day and ended his athletic career 50 – 0.

A Reminder To Keep A Realistic Perspective

For some people, watching, hearing about, or reading about the ‘winners’ in any field can be a negative experience. The perspective is ‘realistic’ in that you see how small and unimportant your achievements are.

Sometimes, I sit with my head in my hands, asking, “Damn, why am I not doing something incredible like that?” but I’ve found a way to make this a positive call-to-action, a reminder, rather than a slap-in-the-face comparison.

Rather than focusing on how ‘small’ I and my work are in comparison to them… I focus on how relatively easy it is. Launching products on the Internet to make a profit is less complex than launching rockets into space and re-landing them, it requires less courage than dodging bullets on horseback, and it requires less pain than becoming a world-class athlete.

After hearing these stories, remember the goals you are trying to achieve. Your goals will be just as life-changing for you once achieved, but they seem easier and the finish line seems closer. This perspective is highly motivating, driving you to get to work, and simultaneously calming, helping you worry less about ‘if’ the goal is achievable. Of course it is.
