Tunisia: European Lifestyle With African Prices

Tunisia: European Lifestyle With African Prices

Perhaps the #1 spot for a Digital Nomad safe house, Tunisia calls for me to return. I hardly knew Tunisia’s northern-coast-of-Africa location before I booked my ticket to Tunis, but now I have a few reasons to book a flight back in the near future.

1. French Language And Food

They speak French; a great opportunity to learn. Nearly every African country has a few local non-English languages that, frankly, weren’t worth learning. (sorry!) But here in Tunisia you have French and Arabic, two languages you can make a case for learning.

They take food seriously in Tunisia. I hadn’t seen a real Boulangerie since ‘nam. (Another ex-French colony on the far side of the world.)

Lots of cafés lining the street provide a coffee and crepe fix, with the one major downside that most cafés are filled with smoke from cigarettes and shisha. (Oh, you can also eat sheep brain.)

2. All-Around More European Feel

I felt like I was in France more than Africa.

Less unfinished buildings, less trash on the streets, a heightened feeling of calm and order, less AK-47s, less begging, no police asking for bribes…

3. African Prices

Like the rest of Africa, everything’s cheap!

Sub-$10/night AirBnB’s, similarly inexpensive rent, simple meals cost $1-2…

It’s a similar budget destination like Thailand… but with the massive benefit over South East Asia that it’s…

4. Close To Europe!

If you’re from anywhere in Europe… Tunisia is just a skip across the Mediterranean. $40 RyanAir flights may be on the horizon.

So, if you want a little ‘real’ Europe, you can get there!

While Spending 2 Weeks In Tunis…

… I couldn’t stop thinking how it would make a perfect digital nomad Safe House location. Low costs allow you to focus on your business instead of freelancing to pay bills or burning through savings. Close to Europe, you can fly across the Mediterranean in just 1-2 hours.

I think we’ll be hearing more about Tunisia in the near future…
